Renata Buziak

Dr Renata Buziak is a biochrome photomedia artist, researcher and educator working at the intersection of art and science. Through her distinctive biochrome process, she brings plants and photographic materials into collaboration over time, allowing organic matter and natural processes to shape each unique image. Her work explores botanical transformation, hidden ecological relationships and our connections with the living world.

Renata holds a PhD from Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, where she also taught, and currently teaches at JMC Academy. Alongside her artistic practice, she facilitates photography, cyanotype and art-and-nature workshops for schools, community groups, private and corporate audiences.

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in private and public collections. She is involved in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects including the Yimbaya Maranoa Arts Collective, Wildflowering Collective, Bloom Collective and Australian Walking Artists (AWA).

Her projects include medicinal plants of Minjerribah / North Stradbroke Island; Gondwanan Biochromes, developed during her artist residency at Binna Burra Cultural Landscape; works created through Yimbaya arts camps on Gunggari Country along the Maranoa River; and interdisciplinary collaborations exploring plants, place and ecological relationships.

Her work has been featured on ABC TV's Gardening Australia, in the documentary Earth Prints, and in Australian and international publications exploring art, ecology and the relationships between people, plants and place.
